CREATING hEALTHY KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDES, AND BELIEFS in schools
I am proud and excited to officially launch FIT KID TEXT!
The FIT KID TEXT business concept has been brewing in my mind for some time now. For years, I had wanted to develop meaningful, sustainable ways to get healthy, positive, real life information out to communities. There was a real need. Over my years of serving as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist in a variety of settings, I saw the need over and over again. It didn’t matter the role I was filling; from being a home based dietitian for the elderly in Chicago, to working for the Women, Infants and Children Program (WIC), from offering nutrition education in an acute care hospital setting, to most recently serving as a school district dietitian for the past decade; the need existed. I read scads of scientific research articles on today’s social media, behavior changes, healthy living and nutrition messaging all in an effort to develop a platform that was better. A platform for today; something cutting edge, something that connects, something that was meaningful and yet something that brought results.
As a school district dietitian, I fully realize the many “hats” that school food service directors wear on a daily basis. I wanted to accomplish four strategic items: 1. Promote school meals and drive participation by using my professional background. 2. Engage with students and parents to shift their perception of school meals and ultimately bring esteem to school districts 3. Create an approach of healthy communication that helps communities get stronger, healthier and more informed about family eating and activities. 4. Most importantly, I wanted to give school districts a useful tool and resource to help take off their ever-increasing burden of running sustainable programs that meet all requirements, regulations and laws.
I took my concept and goals and started to hash out the details. Once I rolled out a pilot of FIT KID TEXT, I found three unique things that happened immediately: 1. Parents and administrators were excited to start a cutting edge healthy messaging program backed by an experienced school dietitian. (Yes, I was encouraged). 2. It was EASY to do. 3. Almost instantaneously, I was able to start messaging and welcoming parents and students with incredibly positive feedback. Yes, this is what we are working for! Positive energy. Creating knowledge. A winning solution!
AND now, with my first hand knowledge of ALL that goes into a creating a healthy school community; with my goal driven results; I am READY and EXCITED to bring FIT KID TEXT to your school community. I am ready to work with you and help you achieve YOUR goals through FIT KID TEXT. As they say, “Let’s do this”!
